A planar built around Final's Air Film Damping System, which uses a cushion of air to keep the diaphragm off the magnets at low frequencies. Made at Final's Kawasaki headquarters and screwed together so it can be repaired. US dealers currently list it as sold out.

Engineering notes

  • AFDS (Air Film Damping System) damps the diaphragm so it does not contact the magnets at low frequencies; developed with finite element simulation and laser Doppler vibrometry
  • Pro Edition retunes AFDS for professional listening at higher volumes, aimed at narrow-dynamic-range music such as pop and rock
  • Diaphragm system mass about one third of a same-diameter dynamic driver; aluminum coil is etched onto the film
  • Built at Final's Kawasaki headquarters with in-house tooling; nearly all parts are screw-fastened for repair

Design language

Machined aluminium-magnesium housings with a leather-texture coating, built with the precision of Japanese camera equipment.
